Welcome to this week’s edition of Massey’s Magazine!

In the News: I AM SOOOO HAPPY TO SHARE THIS! I LITERALLY just looked Monday night when I was meeting with my clients to see if the Environmental Working Group had updated their Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists for 2023, and they hadn’t!  So, today when one of my clients tagged me in a notification that they had just released their updated lists I was thrilled!

What are the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists, and why should you care? The Dirty Dozen is the list I refer everyone to when they are on a budget and just simply can’t afford to get organic everything. These are the twelve produce crops that are the most heavily sprayed, have the most dangerous pesticides used and highest risk for your ingestion of these toxic chemicals.  The Dirty Dozen list contains the 12 produce items that you want to get organic if you have them available to you.  I always tell people to add coffee and tea to that list, because they don’t include them, but they are known for being the worst crops for pesticides and herbicides, and when you switch to organic, and have a cup from Starbucks or Dunkin later, you will taste the chemicals. Gross.

Here’s the Dirty Dozen List: https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php

Let me also add something else the EWG taught me – about the herbicide atrazine.  It is illegal in Europe, y’all.  Many things we Americans accept are, and it’s sad that our EPA can’t be trusted to make good decisions about things like this.  I found out from the good ol’ EPA’s website that atrazine is primarily used in America on corn, sorghum and sugarcane, so PLEASE only get organic non-GMO forms of these crops too.  Why should we care about atrazine?  The reason it was banned in Europe is because it is so strong that it can turn male tadpoles into female frogs.  Does anyone besides me see a problem when science messes with nature in such a profound way—on crops WE consume?  Disturbing to say the least.

Ok, back to my lists.  The Clean Fifteen list is the one indicating that these are the safest produce choices to make that are not organic.  This can be because the chemicals sprayed remain in the peels we don’t eat, or it can be because minimal chemicals are sprayed period.

This is the Clean Fifteen list: https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/clean-fifteen.php

This is just another tool so that you can stay informed when you are shopping for your healthiest options!  The Environmental Working Group is also a plethora of information on so many agriculture issues in our country, and they fight the EPA hard on our behalf. Definitely peruse their site sometime and see how much amazing work they do and good information they provide: www.ewg.org

Client spotlight: “TAKE THE PICTURES” Stacy broadcasted on her Facebook wall and in our public Facebook group this week!  She has every reason to be overjoyed and to spread her message to the world!  She’s lost 74 lbs and her health improvement is out of this world. But, she’s right! Taking the pictures is one of my strategies I teach.  I get it. The before pics can be tough. I get so many people protesting this. They aren’t for me!  They are for you!  If you want to share them later because you’re mindblown over your progress, that’s completely up to you!  But when you are adapting a new healthy lifestyle—that is sustainable— the weight may come off slower at times, and you may hit plateaus while your body catches up!

I often share that this happened to me for SIX SOLID WEEKS when I was losing 65 lbs.  Instead of getting mad and throwing in the towel, I could literally watch my body changing shape in that 6 week period, even though the scale didn’t move.  The number on the scale lies to us about what’s going on inside sometimes!  It’s just ONE measure—not THE measure.  SO TAKE THOSE PICTURES! WATCH YOUR PROGRESS! STAY MOTIVATED!!!

Book launch: The Ultimate Meal Prep Guide to Simplify Clean Eating: How to Cook Once to Save Money & Feel Better …in Just 4 Hours a Month is now also live in Kindle format and—as of today—is ranking #1 in 6 categories, and #2 in an additional one!  There are no words to describe my appreciation to all whom have purchased either form of this book!

If you haven’t gotten your copy yet and are interested, please go to www.simplifycleaneating.com

If you have gotten your copy, can you PLEASE submit a happy testimonial, even if it’s just a small comment as to how this book has spoken to you or has motivated you to do something positive in your life?  I HAD NO IDEA what a powerful weight these reviews are to newbie authors like me!  They are the difference between whether Amazon takes what I’m doing seriously or not, and I have a very good shot at them choosing me for some advertising campaigns or other beta tests they run when they see a significant number of positive reviews.  My goal is 100 in the first couple of weeks, and we have 50 in the first week, so I’m certain we can do it!

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
